Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement in English.
  • Develop and implement a rich, engaging English curriculum that supports student progress and enjoyment.
  • Lead and motivate a team of teachers, promoting collaboration, professional development, and shared success.
  • Champion literacy and a culture of learning across the school, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective strategies.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the school’s vision and strategic priorities.
  • Support the development of students’ writing, reading, and communication skills across all key stages.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and critical thinking.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school or educational setting, ideally within English or a related subject.
  • Strong track record of improving student outcomes and raising standards in English.
  • Experience in curriculum design and delivery, with a clear understanding of current educational trends and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to inclusion, student wellbeing, and continuous professional development.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership role within a multi-academy trust or similar educational organization.
  • Knowledge of assessment and data analysis to support teaching and learning.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods and technology integration in the classroom.
  • A passion for promoting literacy and a love of learning across the school community.
