Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Oversee the academic progress, attainment, and behaviour of students within the department.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement in English.
  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development to departmental colleagues.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
  • Maintain strong communication with parents and stakeholders regarding student progress.
  • Ensure the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching practices to ensure consistency and excellence across the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, ideally as a Head of Department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, with the ability to teach across the curriculum.
  • Excellent organisational, time-management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in managing and developing a team of teachers.
  • Ability to effectively report on student progress and outcomes to parents and senior staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a co-educational setting.
  • Familiarity with international curricula or cross-cultural education.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student welfare.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
