Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
- Oversee the academic progress, attainment, and behaviour of students within the department.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement in English.
- Provide guidance, support, and professional development to departmental colleagues.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
- Maintain strong communication with parents and stakeholders regarding student progress.
- Ensure the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching practices to ensure consistency and excellence across the department.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, ideally as a Head of Department.
- Strong subject knowledge in English, with the ability to teach across the curriculum.
- Excellent organisational, time-management, and leadership skills.
- Experience in managing and developing a team of teachers.
- Ability to effectively report on student progress and outcomes to parents and senior staff.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferred
- Experience in a co-educational setting.
- Familiarity with international curricula or cross-cultural education.
- Experience with pastoral care and student welfare.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
