The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and personal development of students. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and organise the delivery of the English curriculum across all key stages.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date schemes of work aligned with the school’s learning objectives.
  • Promote a variety of teaching and learning strategies to cater to diverse student needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance regularly, providing insightful reports and recommendations.
  • Implement targeted interventions to support student progress and achievement.
  • Lead and support the professional development of English teachers through performance management and appraisal processes.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the broader curriculum as required.
  • Participate in the school’s coaching programme to monitor and improve teaching and learning practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of English or in a senior leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English and a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, development, and delivery.
  • Ability to monitor and analyse student performance data effectively.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Commitment to student progress and achievement.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and developing teaching practice within a department.
  • Experience with Post-16 curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Familiarity with school improvement strategies and self-evaluation processes.
  • Experience with performance management and appraisal systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
