The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Geography to lead a dynamic and high-performing department. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of geography education and inspire the next generation of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a thriving Geography department with a strong academic record.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across GCSE and A-level specifications.
  • Manage and support a team of five full-time staff, including the Head of Geology.
  • Integrate technology and GIS into the curriculum from Year 9 onwards.
  • Organise and lead fieldwork that utilises the school’s unique geographical surroundings.
  • Promote the uptake and success of Geography at both GCSE and A-level.
  • Work closely with other departments to enhance cross-curricular learning opportunities.
  • Ensure the continued growth and development of the subject within the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior teaching role.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography, with experience of teaching at both GCSE and A-level.
  • Experience with Edexcel iGCSE and CIE A-level specifications.
  • Demonstrated success in raising student achievement and value-added scores.
  • Ability to manage and develop a team of teachers effectively.
  • Experience in integrating technology and GIS into teaching and learning.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department with a strong academic record.
  • Background in outdoor education or fieldwork planning.
  • Familiarity with the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
  • Experience in developing and delivering innovative teaching strategies.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
