The Opportunity:
The Head of Geography will lead a dynamic and successful department, driving excellence in teaching and learning across all key stages. This role is central to maintaining the high standards of Geography at the school, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork, academic achievement, and student engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of six highly qualified Geography teachers.
- Develop and implement a high-quality curriculum that meets the needs of all students from Year 7 to Upper Sixth.
- Ensure the continued success of Geography at IGCSE and A Level, with a focus on student achievement and progression.
- Coordinate and deliver fieldwork opportunities, including day and residential trips for all year groups.
- Promote departmental enrichment activities, such as the Climate Committee, to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure Geography is integrated into the broader academic and co-curricular programme.
- Support the pastoral and academic development of students through active involvement in the school’s community and wellbeing initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a senior teaching role, ideally within a school setting.
- Strong subject knowledge in Geography, with experience of teaching across all key stages.
- Demonstrable success in delivering high academic outcomes, including at IGCSE and A Level.
- Experience in managing and developing a departmental team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Preferred
- Experience with fieldwork planning and delivery.
- Familiarity with Edexcel IGCSE and OCR A Level Geography curricula.
- Knowledge of co-curricular and pastoral programmes.
- Experience in leading or contributing to extracurricular societies or initiatives.
