The Opportunity:

The Head of Geography will lead a dynamic and successful department, driving excellence in teaching and learning across all key stages. This role is central to maintaining the high standards of Geography at the school, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork, academic achievement, and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of six highly qualified Geography teachers.
  • Develop and implement a high-quality curriculum that meets the needs of all students from Year 7 to Upper Sixth.
  • Ensure the continued success of Geography at IGCSE and A Level, with a focus on student achievement and progression.
  • Coordinate and deliver fieldwork opportunities, including day and residential trips for all year groups.
  • Promote departmental enrichment activities, such as the Climate Committee, to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure Geography is integrated into the broader academic and co-curricular programme.
  • Support the pastoral and academic development of students through active involvement in the school’s community and wellbeing initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior teaching role, ideally within a school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography, with experience of teaching across all key stages.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering high academic outcomes, including at IGCSE and A Level.
  • Experience in managing and developing a departmental team.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with fieldwork planning and delivery.
  • Familiarity with Edexcel IGCSE and OCR A Level Geography curricula.
  • Knowledge of co-curricular and pastoral programmes.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to extracurricular societies or initiatives.
