The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead a thriving department and shape the academic future of students from Years 3 to 8. This role offers the chance to contribute to curriculum development, support the transition to co-education, and inspire a new generation of history enthusiasts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the history department, ensuring academic excellence and student engagement.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching across a range of year groups, including those preparing for scholarship examinations.
  • Develop and implement a chronologically based curriculum that meets the needs of all students, including high achievers and those with special educational needs.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Master - Teaching and Learning to contribute to the Department Development Plan.
  • Support the expansion of the Under School and the development of a new curriculum for Reception to Year 2.
  • Adapt current schemes of work to align with the transition to a co-educational environment.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a history teacher at a senior level.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a track record in departmental leadership.
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation across Key Stages.
  • Ability to teach across a range of year groups, including those preparing for scholarship exams.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading curriculum development for early years or primary education.
  • Familiarity with co-educational environments and the ability to adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Experience with school expansion or transformation projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with colleagues and stakeholders.
