The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of History to lead our successful department and inspire students at all levels. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of history education within a school known for its academic achievements and strong pastoral care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the History department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a challenging and engaging curriculum aligned with the British National Curriculum.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing targeted support to enhance outcomes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan and resource effective teaching strategies.
- Organise and lead departmental events, including whole-school debates and memory events.
- Plan and lead educational trips to enhance students' academic experiences.
- Support and mentor junior staff within the department.
- Maintain strong communication with parents and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching A Level History and as Head of Department.
- A 2.1 degree from a British university.
- Qualified teacher status (PGCE or equivalent) for secondary History teaching.
- Recent experience as a History teacher in a UK-based school.
- Strong subject knowledge and excellent classroom management skills.
- Native-level English speaker.
- Proficient in using ICT systems such as Google Classroom and Zoom, and comfortable with using iPads in teaching.
Preferred
- Experience teaching Edexcel A Level History units.
- Previous experience in an independent or international school setting.
