The Opportunity:

The Head of Languages will lead a thriving Modern Foreign Languages department and oversee support for EAL students. This role is central to the school's mission of fostering global awareness and academic success, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and high achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Modern Foreign Languages department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Oversee provision for EAL students, ensuring they receive the support and challenge needed to succeed.
  • Line manage the EAL Coordinator and collaborate with other departments to support student progress.
  • Deliver inspirational learning experiences that promote language confidence and cultural understanding.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing strategies to raise achievement across all ability levels.
  • Promote inclusive teaching practices and ensure all students have access to effective learning opportunities.
  • Engage with students, colleagues, and parents through clear and consistent communication.
  • Support the school’s vision by contributing to whole-school initiatives and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, preferably in a languages department.
  • A strong track record in delivering high-quality teaching and learning in Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Experience in managing and supporting EAL students and staff.
  • Demonstrated success in raising student achievement and progress.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student success.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental or whole-school initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Continuing Professional Development and leadership training.
  • Experience with assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of student progress.
  • Knowledge of EAL strategies and support frameworks.
  • Passion for languages and a commitment to global education.
