The Opportunity:
The Head of Learning Support (SENCO) will lead a dedicated team in providing tailored support to students with special educational needs and disabilities. This role is central to ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to thrive academically and personally, with a focus on access arrangements and inclusive teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the Learning Support department to ensure effective support for students with additional learning needs
- Assess and prepare students for exam access arrangements and maintain relevant documentation
- Provide training and guidance to teaching staff on supporting pupils with SEND
- Liaise with external professionals and the Examinations Office to ensure appropriate provision
- Maintain an up-to-date database of students with SEND and monitor the quality of departmental teaching
- Keep informed on JCQ examination regulations and developments in learning support
- Attend meetings with senior leadership and contribute to departmental policies and procedures
- Manage the department budget and support the Head of EAL where necessary
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in supporting students with special educational needs
- Proven ability to assess for exam access arrangements
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Experience working in a school environment with a focus on inclusion
- Familiarity with JCQ examination regulations
Preferred
- Experience in leading a Learning Support team
- Knowledge of EAL support strategies
- Experience in pastoral support and student welfare
- Commitment to professional development and staff training
