The Opportunity:
A Head of Mandarin Chinese is needed to lead a dynamic and successful department, working closely with the Head of MFL and other subject leads. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the future of language education in a school that values leadership, collaboration, and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Mandarin Chinese department, including curriculum development and teacher training.
- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that align with the school’s academic and holistic goals.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of MFL and other subject leads to ensure consistency and excellence across the Modern Foreign Languages department.
- Support students in achieving outstanding academic outcomes at all levels, including IGCSE and IBDP.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and language proficiency.
- Stay up to date with current pedagogical practices and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of dedicated teachers and a language assistant.
- Ensure the effective use of state-of-the-art facilities and technology in teaching and learning.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching and leading Mandarin Chinese to Key Stage 5 level.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing a team of teachers and a language assistant.
- Demonstrated success in delivering high academic outcomes in a school setting.
- Familiarity with international curricula, including IGCSE and IBDP.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the school’s values of integrity, care, and respect.
Preferred
- Experience in teaching within an international school environment.
- IBDP teaching experience.
- Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
- Knowledge of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the English National Curriculum.
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English.
