The Opportunity:

As the Head of Maths Department, you will lead a team of maths teachers and inspire students to excel in mathematics. You will play a key role in shaping the curriculum and ensuring high-quality teaching and learning at Key Stage 3 and 4, with a focus on student achievement and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the maths department, providing guidance and support to teachers
  • Develop and implement effective maths teaching strategies aligned with curriculum standards
  • Monitor and assess student progress, ensuring consistent academic outcomes
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the learning experience for all students
  • Deliver high-quality lessons that are engaging and accessible to diverse learners
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation
  • Support the professional development of maths teachers within the department
  • Work closely with parents and other staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student success

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Strong subject knowledge in mathematics at secondary level
  • Experience in teaching mathematics at Key Stage 3 and 4
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or management role within a school setting
  • A track record of successful curriculum development
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching other teachers
  • Familiarity with modern teaching methodologies and technologies
