Head of Modern Foreign Languages and EAL to lead and develop a dynamic department at a school in North West London.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Head of Modern Foreign Languages and EAL to lead and develop a passionate and collaborative department. This role is central to raising student achievement and fostering a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of the department and contribute to the school’s continued success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Modern Foreign Languages and EAL department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies, syllabuses, and assessment policies.
  • Monitor and support student progress, ensuring that all students achieve their full potential.
  • Provide professional development and support for teaching staff within the department.
  • Manage resources, staff, and budgets to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Promote the use of ICT and support the development of remote learning materials.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, including Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
  • Facilitate team meetings and collaborate with colleagues to shape departmental and school-wide strategies.
  • Engage in research and continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Modern Foreign Languages and EAL.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school department.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a large department or faculty.
  • Familiarity with A-level teaching and curriculum delivery.
  • Experience with inclusive education and supporting EAL students.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching and learning technologies.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff.
