The Opportunity:

The Head of Music and Performing Arts will lead and develop the department, driving student achievement and fostering a culture of excellence in the arts. This is a key leadership role with significant influence over curriculum and performance outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Music and Performing Arts department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum that inspires student creativity and achievement.
  • Supervise and support a team of teachers, providing professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Coordinate and manage extracurricular activities, performances, and events to promote student engagement and talent.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that all students reach their full potential.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and external partners to enhance the arts provision.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, Ofsted standards, and national curriculum requirements.
  • Promote the school’s arts program through effective communication and community engagement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in Music and Performing Arts.
  • Proven track record of improving student achievement and engagement.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in departmental leadership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and deliver high-quality lessons and extracurricular activities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and student success.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar leadership role within a school or academy.
  • Strong knowledge of performing arts and music education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Familiarity with the Ofsted inspection process and school improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in working with a multi-academy trust or similar organization.
