The Opportunity:

As the Head of PE, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the delivery of physical education and extracurricular sports across all year groups. This is an opportunity to lead a successful and popular PE department and inspire students to achieve their full potential through sport and physical activity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the PE department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and inclusive PE curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Oversee the management and development of extracurricular sports teams and activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and attainment in PE, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other subject leaders and senior leadership to ensure alignment with school-wide goals and priorities.
  • Promote a culture of physical activity and healthy lifestyles across the school community.
  • Support the development of staff within the PE department through training, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Represent the school at local, regional, and national sporting events and competitions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a PE department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in physical education and sports.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learning in PE.
  • Experience in managing and developing extracurricular sports programs.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and supporting students with a range of needs.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar leadership role within a school or academy setting.
  • Experience of working with students with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in physical education.
  • Experience in driving student engagement and achievement in PE and sport.
