The Opportunity:

As Head of Physical Education, you will lead the department in delivering high-quality lessons and driving student engagement through an extensive extra-curricular sports programme. This role offers the chance to make a real impact in a forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the PE department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Deliver inspiring and challenging PE lessons for students from Year 7 to Year 13.
  • Manage and support the extra-curricular sports programme to promote student participation and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve student outcomes at all key stages.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for students and staff.
  • Implement innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s wider curriculum and pastoral systems.
  • Support the professional development of teaching staff within the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Physical Education.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally as a Head of Department.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student achievement and positive outcomes.
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons and extra-curricular activities.
  • Experience in working within a school setting with a focus on student well-being and development.

Preferred

  • Experience with teaching across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Familiarity with the ACED teaching and learning framework.
  • Experience in managing a large or growing department.
  • Background in sports coaching or extra-curricular programme development.
  • Experience in promoting student engagement and inclusion.
