The Opportunity:

As the Head of Physics, you will lead the department in delivering high-quality science education that drives student success and engagement. This role is central to shaping a curriculum that reflects the school’s evidence-informed teaching approach and commitment to raising achievement for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Physics department, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and evidence-based Physics curriculum aligned with the school’s teaching philosophy.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support and interventions where needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to promote interdisciplinary learning and shared professional development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through instructional coaching and peer feedback.
  • Support the development of student prosocial behaviours and well-rounded individuals.
  • Oversee the management of extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities in Physics.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with school-wide goals and improvement strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in Physics and relevant experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a subject department with a clear vision for improvement.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-informed teaching strategies and curriculum design.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the well-being of students.

Preferred

  • Experience in instructional coaching or peer observation.
  • Familiarity with explicit teaching methods and behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience in leading successful departmental interventions and support programs.
  • Background in promoting inclusive education and student well-being.
