The Opportunity:

As the Head of Physics, you will lead a small but highly capable department and shape the future of physics education at a school designed for gifted students. This role offers the chance to influence curriculum development and provide students with real-world scientific engagement through university and industry partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Physics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and student achievement.
  • Develop and deliver a challenging curriculum that extends students beyond the standard A-level syllabus.
  • Prepare students for university admissions, including Oxbridge and Russell Group applications.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with universities, research institutions, and industry professionals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across STEM subjects to create an integrated and interdisciplinary learning environment.
  • Support the school’s mission through outreach and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific excellence among students.
  • Ensure the wellbeing of students and colleagues, promoting a balanced and supportive work environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Outstanding subject knowledge in Physics and experience teaching A-level Physics.
  • Proven ability to stretch and challenge high-achieving students.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading a department.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and innovation in teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, students, and external partners.

Preferred

  • Experience in preparing students for competitive university admissions.
  • Background in developing enrichment programmes and industry partnerships.
  • Familiarity with STEM outreach and community engagement initiatives.
  • Experience in curriculum design and academic leadership.
