The Opportunity:

As the Head of Religious Studies, you will provide academic leadership and drive excellence in teaching and learning. This role is ideal for an inspiring educator with a passion for Religious Studies and a commitment to supporting student wellbeing and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Religious Studies department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Deliver engaging and innovative lessons that promote critical thinking and spiritual development.
  • Support pupils’ academic progress and wellbeing through effective teaching and pastoral care.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Director and other Heads of Department to shape curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Promote inclusive practices and ensure effective assessment strategies across the department.
  • Contribute to the wider academic and pastoral life of the school through extracurricular activities and events.
  • Manage and mentor departmental staff to foster a supportive and professional working environment.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Religious Studies and incorporate new ideas into teaching practice.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching Religious Studies at a senior level.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading a department.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and pastoral care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A relevant teaching qualification and current teaching certification.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • A passion for extracurricular activities and school life beyond the classroom.
  • Experience in leading or supporting student wellbeing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Christian values and ethos in an educational setting.
