The Opportunity:
As the Head of Science, you will lead and inspire a team of science educators, driving excellence in teaching and learning. This role is ideal for a passionate and driven professional who is committed to raising standards and achieving outstanding outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student attainment and progress, particularly at KS3 and KS4.
- Support and mentor science staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Head Teacher and Middle Leadership Team to enhance departmental performance.
- Promote and deliver a strong enrichment programme through co-curricular science clubs and activities.
- Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with school objectives.
- Foster a positive and inclusive department culture that supports both staff and student success.
- Work closely with other departments to integrate science across the curriculum where appropriate.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience as a Head of Department in a secondary school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve outstanding results in Science at KS3 and KS4.
- Strong leadership and management skills with experience in mentoring and supporting staff.
- Passion for Science and a commitment to inspiring students to excel in the subject.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to the school’s mission of providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a large or growing Science department.
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
- Experience with co-curricular activities and extracurricular science engagement.
- Knowledge of current science education trends and best practices.
- Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational organisation.
