The Opportunity:
As Head of Science, you will lead and manage the Science department, driving excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s academic programme and inspiring both students and colleagues through innovative science education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Science department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all Key Stages
- Develop and implement innovative science teaching strategies that engage and challenge students
- Support and mentor Science staff to enhance teaching standards and professional development
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate Science across the curriculum and promote STEM engagement
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring alignment with curriculum requirements and school goals
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and achievement in Science
- Represent the Science department at school events and engage with parents and external stakeholders
- Contribute to the development of the school’s academic strategy and vision for Science education
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Minimum of one year’s experience teaching science at secondary level
- Strong knowledge of Science curriculum requirements and assessment practices
- Excellent leadership and organisational skills
- Proven ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues
- Strong communication skills with pupils, parents, and staff
- Commitment to continuous professional development in Science education
Preferred
- Experience in leading a Science department or similar role
- Familiarity with STEM initiatives and strategies to promote girls’ engagement in Science
- Experience with innovative teaching methods and technology in Science education
- Background in a single-sex educational environment
