The Opportunity:

As Head of Science, you will lead and manage the Science department, driving excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s academic programme and inspiring both students and colleagues through innovative science education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all Key Stages
  • Develop and implement innovative science teaching strategies that engage and challenge students
  • Support and mentor Science staff to enhance teaching standards and professional development
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate Science across the curriculum and promote STEM engagement
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring alignment with curriculum requirements and school goals
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and achievement in Science
  • Represent the Science department at school events and engage with parents and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s academic strategy and vision for Science education

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum of one year’s experience teaching science at secondary level
  • Strong knowledge of Science curriculum requirements and assessment practices
  • Excellent leadership and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues
  • Strong communication skills with pupils, parents, and staff
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in Science education

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a Science department or similar role
  • Familiarity with STEM initiatives and strategies to promote girls’ engagement in Science
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods and technology in Science education
  • Background in a single-sex educational environment
