The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Head of Science - Maternity Cover to lead and inspire a dynamic department, driving academic excellence and fostering a culture of curiosity and innovation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and lead the science curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of all students and aligns with the school’s high standards.
  • Develop and implement teaching strategies that inspire, motivate, and challenge students across all ability levels.
  • Manage and support science staff, fostering a collaborative and professional department culture.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the wider school community by participating in planning, sharing best practice, and supporting cross-curricular initiatives.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and development of all students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school’s commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Oversee pastoral arrangements and support for students within the science department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child safeguarding and welfare.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and strong IT skills.
  • Experience in leading a science department and delivering high-quality teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Leadership experience within a school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with inclusive teaching practices and student pastoral support.
