The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Spanish to lead the Modern Foreign Languages department. This role involves teaching Spanish and supporting the teaching of French or German to Key Stage 4 students. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving language learning and student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Modern Foreign Languages faculty with a focus on curriculum development and teaching excellence.
  • Deliver high-quality Spanish lessons to Key Stage 4 students and support the teaching of French or German.
  • Promote a strong, inclusive learning environment that supports student achievement and engagement.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and colleagues to share best practice and resources.
  • Develop and implement schemes of work aligned with the school’s educational vision.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using Assessment for Learning techniques.
  • Support the school’s extracurricular programme, including language exchanges and competitions.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and technology in teaching and learning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in teaching Spanish at Key Stage 4.
  • Ability to teach French or German to Key Stage 4 students.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading a faculty team.
  • Commitment to student welfare and pastoral care.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment for learning.
  • Knowledge of AQA and Kerboodle resources for Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Experience with cross-phase collaboration and project-based learning.
  • Background in extracurricular language activities or exchange programmes.
