The Opportunity:

As Head of Year, you will play a vital role in leading and supporting a cohort of students as they begin their secondary education. This is a leadership position that requires a passion for pastoral care and the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff. You will be responsible for ensuring a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of eight tutors, a Deputy Head of Year, and a non-teaching Pastoral Lead to support a cohort of approximately 240 students.
  • Ensure the wellbeing and academic progress of students through effective pastoral care and support systems.
  • Work closely with the Pastoral Lead, Attendance Officer, and mental health professionals to address student needs.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and local providers to enhance student engagement and satisfaction.
  • Promote a positive school culture aligned with the school’s values of kindness, bravery, and striving for excellence.
  • Monitor and improve attendance, behaviour, and overall student outcomes across the year group.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to implement school-wide initiatives and policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within education, preferably as a Head of Year or similar.
  • Strong background in pastoral care and student support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a team and deliver high standards of student outcomes.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission of providing equal opportunities for all students.

Preferred

  • Experience in a secondary school setting, particularly with Year 7 students.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience with mental health support systems and strategies.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted and other regulatory requirements.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
