The Opportunity:

As a Head of Year, you will lead a team in providing care, guidance, and support to a designated group of students. This role plays a vital part in shaping student behavior, attendance, and overall well-being, contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of staff and students to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Oversee student behavior, attendance, and welfare, ensuring all students receive the support they need.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student engagement and academic outcomes.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other pastoral staff to provide a cohesive support system for students.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, attendance, and behavior regularly.
  • Organize and lead student activities, assemblies, and events that promote school spirit and community.
  • Provide guidance and support to students on personal, social, and academic issues.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure the school’s pastoral policies are effectively implemented.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral leadership role, ideally as a Head of Year.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiative.
  • Commitment to student welfare and academic success.
  • Relevant teaching or leadership qualifications.

Preferred

  • Experience in a comprehensive school setting.
  • Experience with student behavior management and support strategies.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student welfare programs.
  • Familiarity with school policies and procedures.
