The Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity for a Headteacher to lead and shape a specialist school for children and young people with SEMH and Autism. You will have the chance to build a supportive, innovative environment that prioritises wellbeing, safety, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop a specialist school from the ground up, with a focus on SEMH and Autism.
  • Embed trauma-informed practices across all aspects of the school’s culture and curriculum.
  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality education and care.
  • Establish a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the emotional and academic growth of pupils.
  • Ensure compliance with Ofsted frameworks and maintain high standards in safeguarding and quality.
  • Collaborate with therapists and specialists to create personalised learning pathways for students.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and local authorities to support student success.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and strategic planning to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS) with significant experience in SEN leadership.
  • Proven experience as a Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher in SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision.
  • In-depth knowledge of trauma-informed practice and inclusive education.
  • Strong understanding of Ofsted frameworks for specialist settings.
  • Demonstrated ability in budget management, resource planning, and leading change.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading the development of new schools or settings.
  • Background in therapeutic or mental health support services.
  • Experience with the 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) or flexible working models.
  • Strong track record in safeguarding and operational excellence.
