The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) specialising in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) to join our Learning Support team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support children with SEMH needs in a nurturing environment, helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges through tailored interventions
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to develop and implement individual learning plans
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to promote a supportive learning environment
  • Assist in creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment for all students
  • Deliver targeted support that promotes emotional well-being and academic progress
  • Communicate effectively with parents and other professionals to ensure consistent support for students
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills in SEMH support
  • Contribute to the overall success of the school by promoting positive behaviour and inclusion

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A genuine interest in working with children who have social, emotional, and mental health challenges
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding towards young people facing difficulties
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to learn new strategies for supporting SEMH needs

Preferred

  • Relevant qualifications or HLTA status
  • Experience in working with children with SEMH needs
  • Experience in teaching or learning support
  • Experience with inclusion and equality initiatives
