The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced KS3 English and Maths tutor to provide high-quality support to students in the Shakelford area. This role is ideal for someone passionate about working with students with special educational needs (SEN) and who can deliver engaging, effective tuition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured, engaging tuition in English and Maths to KS3 students
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEN) using a student-centred approach
  • Build trust and confidence through empathetic, individualised teaching
  • Follow the Bright Heart Approach to ensure a nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and tailor learning strategies accordingly
  • Communicate regularly with parents and the Bright Heart team to ensure consistent support
  • Attend training and professional development sessions to enhance teaching practice
  • Adhere to safeguarding and child protection policies at all times

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • At least 12 months of relevant tutoring or teaching experience in the UK
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong subject knowledge in English and Maths
  • A university qualification or currently studying towards one
  • A current Enhanced DBS certificate with a check of the children’s barred list
  • Experience working with students with SEN
  • Passion for teaching and supporting students with learning challenges

Preferred

  • Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred teaching methods
  • Experience with online or in-person tutoring
  • Experience working with students lacking confidence or motivation
  • Familiarity with creating and implementing individual learning plans (ILPs)
