The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Science Teacher to lead and develop the Science Department. This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on student outcomes and to shape the future of science education at a school with a proven track record of academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Science Department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Deliver outstanding lessons that align with the school’s vision of Intentional Excellence and deep curriculum knowledge.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Faculty to support and challenge students through targeted interventions and joint planning.
  • Implement and monitor the dynamic 5-year Curriculum Map, ensuring consistent delivery of sequenced lessons.
  • Enhance metacognition and oracy through expert modelling and routine-based teaching strategies.
  • Provide regular, targeted feedback to accelerate student progress and improve understanding.
  • Manage behaviour effectively, promoting a positive learning environment through appropriate praise and sanctions.
  • Support continuous improvement through instructional mastery and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong pedagogical background and experience in Science education.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a department team.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality lessons and adhering to whole school teaching and learning foci.
  • Strong behaviour management skills with the ability to create a positive and focused learning environment.
  • Commitment to student achievement and the school’s core values of Intentional Excellence and Mutual Respect.

Preferred

  • Experience in department leadership or senior teaching roles.
  • Background in developing and implementing curriculum maps or long-term planning.
  • Familiarity with metacognitive strategies and oracy-based teaching techniques.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or collaborative educational environment.
