Summary:

Learning Mentor Part Time Temporary – Support pupils to overcome learning barriers and enhance achievement.

The Opportunity:

As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and improving their academic and personal development. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils directly to overcome barriers to learning and improve achievement.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and engagement of pupils during learning activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual Education and Health Care Plans or Learning Support Plans.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to provide targeted support and raise pupil attendance and achievement.
  • Maintain records of pupil progress, attendance, and achievements.
  • Communicate regularly with pupils’ families or carers to update them on progress and concerns.
  • Implement and monitor individual action plans to support pupil development.
  • Support pupils in accessing out-of-school facilities and study resources.
  • Assist in resolving relationship issues between pupils and promoting positive social development.
  • Provide supervision for pupils excluded from or not following a normal timetable.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of educational support strategies and pupil development.
  • Commitment to working within school policies and procedures.

Preferred

  • Experience in mentoring or supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Familiarity with Pupil Support Plans and Education and Health Care Plans.
  • Experience in managing behavior and supporting reintegration after exclusion.
  • Knowledge of out-of-school activities and support programs.
  • Experience in monitoring homework and supporting academic progress.
