Summary:

Learning Support Assistant (Autism / SEMH) role with a focus on supporting students with special educational needs.

About the School:

The school is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for students aged 7 to 16 with autism and/or ADHD, along with associated social, emotional, and communication needs. It prioritises the development of academic, emotional, and life skills through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.

The Opportunity:

As a Learning Support Assistant (Autism / SEMH), you will play a vital role in supporting students with autism and complex needs within a dedicated SEN setting. You will work closely with teachers and the therapy team to ensure each student receives the individualised support they need to thrive academically and socially. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in their assigned tutor group across all lessons and transitions.
  • Collaborate with teachers and therapists to deliver individualised support plans.
  • Promote the social, emotional, and academic development of students.
  • Assist with the implementation of strategies to support students with autism and SEMH needs.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Support students during breaks and other non-academic times.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with the teaching team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with autism or SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and special educational needs frameworks.
  • Experience in a SEN or mainstream school setting.
  • Previous experience with students aged 7 to 16.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic interventions and support strategies.
