The Opportunity:

A Medical Support Assistant is needed to provide essential care and support to a child with Type 1 Diabetes in the Infant & Junior Division. This is a full-time position, primarily during term-time, with the potential for a job share arrangement. The role is vital in ensuring the child's well-being and full participation in school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and monitor a child with Type 1 Diabetes throughout the school day.
  • Administer and record insulin and other medical treatments as required.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and healthcare professionals to ensure the child's needs are met.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual care plans.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to the child in a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualifications in healthcare or a related field.
  • Experience in providing medical support to children, particularly those with diabetes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Previous experience working in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of diabetes management and care.
  • Experience with administering medication and monitoring blood glucose levels.
  • Flexibility to work during term-time and potentially on a job share basis.
