The Opportunity:

As a Mental Health Advisor, you will provide essential support to students through one-to-one and group sessions. This role is pivotal in promoting mental health and wellbeing, and you will contribute to the development of key campaigns and training initiatives across the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide short-term mental health advice and support to individual learners in a confidential setting.
  • Triage students to the appropriate service and ensure safeguarding protocols are followed.
  • Deliver drop-in sessions and focused group work to support students’ mental health needs.
  • Coordinate and develop resilience and exam anxiety campaigns during key academic periods.
  • Train and update staff, parents, and professionals on mental health and wellbeing best practices.
  • Work across multiple campuses, including based at Havering Sixth Form campus for two days per week.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree-level education and relevant professional qualifications in mental health or a related field.
  • Significant experience in providing mental health interventions and confidential support services.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Experience working with diverse groups including individuals from different cultures, disabilities, sexual orientations, and ages.
  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate resilience in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in an education setting, particularly with adolescents and adults.
  • Knowledge of mental health frameworks and policies in further education.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training sessions or workshops.
