The Opportunity:
As an Outdoor Learning Leader, you will inspire and engage secondary students through innovative and impactful outdoor learning experiences. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth development and creating meaningful opportunities for personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging outdoor learning sessions, including fire lighting, shelter building, and woodcraft.
- Plan and lead expeditions, camping trips, and navigation activities that promote resilience and life skills.
- Adapt activities to meet the needs of students with additional needs, ensuring inclusivity and safety.
- Deliver personal development programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate outdoor learning into the curriculum.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure all activities comply with safeguarding and safety standards.
- Support students in developing confidence, independence, and team-building skills.
- Maintain records and report on the impact of outdoor learning activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong practical skills in outdoor activities such as fire lighting, shelter building, and navigation.
- Experience leading expeditions, camping trips, and outdoor learning sessions.
- Ability to adapt activities for students with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Understanding of safety in outdoor environments.
Preferred
- Experience working with youth organisations such as Scouts, Guides, or Cadets.
- Experience delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
- First Aid qualification.
- Risk assessment and safeguarding training.
- Knowledge of enrichment programme design.
