Summary:

Outdoor Learning Leader job opportunity with a school dedicated to supporting students aged 7–19 with additional needs.

The Opportunity:

As an Outdoor Learning Leader, you will design and deliver dynamic outdoor sessions that promote confidence, resilience, and life skills. This role is ideal for someone passionate about outdoor education and working with young people to create meaningful learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging outdoor learning sessions including fire lighting, shelter building, and woodcraft.
  • Plan and lead expeditions, camping trips, and navigation activities for secondary students.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs of students with additional needs (SEND).
  • Deliver personal development programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students during all outdoor activities.
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to enhance the curriculum through outdoor experiences.
  • Conduct risk assessments and follow safeguarding procedures to maintain a safe learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong practical skills in outdoor activities such as fire lighting, shelter building, and navigation.
  • Experience leading expeditions and camping trips.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young people, including those with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of safety in outdoor environments.

Preferred

  • Experience in youth organisations (Scouts, Guides, Cadets).
  • Delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Risk assessment and safeguarding training.
  • Knowledge of enrichment programme design.
