The Opportunity:

As a Pastoral Lead, you will play a key role in supporting student wellbeing and academic success. You will work closely with students, families, and staff to ensure a positive and engaging school experience. This is a vital position within the school’s pastoral structure, offering the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and lead the pastoral care of approximately 240 students in Year 9.
  • Work collaboratively with the Teaching Head of Year, Deputy Head of Year, and tutors to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to student welfare.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and local community providers.
  • Monitor and address student attendance, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing through a structured support network.
  • Coordinate with mental health professionals and implement the school’s mental health referral system.
  • Promote a positive school culture and ensure that all students feel safe, valued, and supported.
  • Participate in meetings and events that strengthen the school’s connection with families and the wider community.
  • Contribute to the school’s ongoing improvement and development in pastoral care and student engagement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral leadership role within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Experience in managing and supporting student wellbeing and behaviour.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiative when needed.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission of providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all students.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school with a strong focus on pastoral care and student engagement.
  • Knowledge of mental health support systems and best practices in student wellbeing.
  • Experience in working with diverse student groups, including those with special educational needs.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and teaching and learning frameworks.
