The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a dedicated Physical Education Teacher to cover maternity leave from 30th March 2026 to 28th March 2027. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-quality PE lessons, coach hockey and netball, and contribute to the development of student athletes and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-level Hockey and Netball sessions
  • Prepare and teach GCSE and A Level PE lessons
  • Develop and coach school sports teams for local and national competitions
  • Maintain a positive and productive learning environment
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEND) in line with school policy
  • Assess and report on student progress regularly
  • Promote independent learning and differentiation in teaching
  • Assist students in reaching their full potential
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the academic programme
  • Support pastoral care and provide guidance to students
  • Uphold school discipline and safeguard student welfare
  • Supervise students during absences and assist with administrative tasks
  • Engage in extracurricular activities and school events
  • Contribute to the development of the school and its strategic objectives

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Degree plus PGCE or equivalent)
  • Experience in teaching Physical Education at GCSE and A Level
  • Ability to coach Hockey and Netball at a competitive level
  • Understanding of SEND support strategies
  • Commitment to student well-being and academic achievement
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Preferred

  • Experience in coaching and developing sports teams
  • Experience with extracurricular and enrichment programmes
  • Familiarity with school sports fixtures and competitions
  • Experience in pastoral care and student guidance
  • Knowledge of school development and strategic planning
