The Opportunity:

As a Primary Therapeutic Education Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting primary-aged pupils with complex needs and neurodiversity, including Autism. You will help these young people develop social skills, build confidence, and succeed in a classroom setting. This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children through a holistic, trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support primary-aged pupils with complex needs and neurodiversity, including Autism, through therapeutic and nurturing practices.
  • Deliver a differentiated and holistic curriculum tailored to the developmental needs of each pupil.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, including therapists, social workers, and educationalists.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, their families, and colleagues to support emotional and academic growth.
  • Provide guidance and support to pupils in developing self-confidence, emotional intelligence, and life skills.
  • Assist with personal/intimate care when required, with full training provided.
  • Promote a safe, secure, and inclusive learning environment that encourages independence and positive relationships.
  • Implement therapeutic education principles to enhance learning and emotional regulation.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience of supporting neurodiverse children with SEND, including Autism (ASD / ASC), particularly in primary aged pupils.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model and build strong relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Understanding of therapeutic education principles and their application in a school setting.
  • Resilient, hardworking, and committed to empowering young people and their families.
  • Confidence to take on personal/intimate care when required (training will be provided).

Preferred

  • Experience in therapeutic education or nurturing approaches.
  • Knowledge of the nurture model and its application in education.
  • Experience in working with children with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and its role in education.
