The Opportunity:

As a School Counsellor, you will provide essential support to students in Years 7-13, helping them navigate their emotional and mental health needs. This role is a vital part of the pastoral team, offering a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counselling to students in Years 7-13
  • Support the school’s pastoral team in promoting mental and emotional well-being
  • Work in accordance with the codes of practice and ethics of professional counselling organisations
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure student well-being
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions
  • Participate in after-school activities and provide support as needed
  • Offer guidance and support during critical transitions, such as exams and personal challenges

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualification in counselling or a related field
  • Experience working with young people in a school or similar setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • Flexibility to work term time only, with some after-school availability

Preferred

  • Experience with BACP, UKCP, or equivalent counselling organisations
  • Experience in a school environment
  • Knowledge of mental health and well-being support strategies
  • Experience with pastoral care and student welfare
