The Opportunity:
As a School Counsellor, you will provide essential support to students in Years 7-13, helping them navigate their emotional and mental health needs. This role is a vital part of the pastoral team, offering a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counselling to students in Years 7-13
- Support the school’s pastoral team in promoting mental and emotional well-being
- Work in accordance with the codes of practice and ethics of professional counselling organisations
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure student well-being
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions
- Participate in after-school activities and provide support as needed
- Offer guidance and support during critical transitions, such as exams and personal challenges
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Relevant qualification in counselling or a related field
- Experience working with young people in a school or similar setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
- Flexibility to work term time only, with some after-school availability
Preferred
- Experience with BACP, UKCP, or equivalent counselling organisations
- Experience in a school environment
- Knowledge of mental health and well-being support strategies
- Experience with pastoral care and student welfare
