The Opportunity:
We are seeking a School Kitchen Assistant to join our team and help provide nutritious meals to students in a busy and supportive environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve hot and cold meals in a timely and efficient manner
- Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment at all times
- Assist with menu planning, ordering, and receiving deliveries as required
- Work flexibly and proactively in a fast-paced school setting
- Follow all food hygiene and safety procedures in accordance with regulations
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and other staff members
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation including COSHH and manual handling guidelines
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene at all times
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in a catering environment, ideally in a school, residential or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment and cleaning schedules
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures
- Strong communication skills
- Flexibility to manage a varied and busy workload
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of personal and environmental hygiene
Preferred
- Experience with menu planning and food ordering
- Familiarity with health and safety legislation
- Experience in a school setting
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations
- Previous experience in a similar role within education
