The Opportunity:

We are seeking a School Kitchen Assistant to join our team and help provide nutritious meals to students in a busy and supportive environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold meals in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment at all times
  • Assist with menu planning, ordering, and receiving deliveries as required
  • Work flexibly and proactively in a fast-paced school setting
  • Follow all food hygiene and safety procedures in accordance with regulations
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and other staff members
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation including COSHH and manual handling guidelines
  • Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene at all times

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in a catering environment, ideally in a school, residential or healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and cleaning schedules
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexibility to manage a varied and busy workload
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of personal and environmental hygiene

Preferred

  • Experience with menu planning and food ordering
  • Familiarity with health and safety legislation
  • Experience in a school setting
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations
  • Previous experience in a similar role within education
