The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Science Technician - Physics to support the delivery of high-quality A Level and Applied Science education. This role is essential in maintaining safe and effective laboratory environments that enable students to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and meets health and safety standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of experiments and materials for Physics and Applied Science lessons.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals and radioactive sources.
  • Support the teaching team by providing technical assistance during practical sessions and demonstrations.
  • Undertake routine maintenance tasks for laboratory and small electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with staff and students to promote a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Participate in in-house training and development opportunities to enhance technical and safety knowledge.
  • Keep accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and any incidents or issues.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Academic qualifications to GCSE level and above.
  • Experience with standard laboratory equipment and maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures in a 16–19 educational setting.
  • Willingness to train as a Radiation Protection Officer.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a sixth form or college setting.
  • Familiarity with IT systems used in education.
  • Previous experience in a technical or support role within education.
