The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Second in Department for Religious Education to join a dynamic and successful department. This role will support the teaching of Religious Education across all key stages and contribute to the spiritual and academic development of students. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a department that plays a central role in the school’s mission and pastoral life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and lead the Religious Education department in delivering high-quality teaching and learning across Years 7 to 13.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of PSHE and Chaplaincy work within the school.
  • Assist in the management of departmental resources and ensure effective use of teaching materials.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum and support student achievement in Religious Education.
  • Promote and model the school’s Christian values and mission in all aspects of the role.
  • Provide pastoral support to students and contribute to the spiritual life of the school.
  • Participate in staff development and professional learning opportunities.
  • Support the Head of Department in ensuring the department meets its academic and pastoral objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Religious Education.
  • Strong classroom presence and the ability to inspire and engage students.
  • Commitment to the school’s Christian mission and values.
  • Experience in leading or supporting a department within a school setting.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.

Preferred

  • Experience in PSHE or Chaplaincy work.
  • Experience in a Catholic or faith-based educational setting.
  • Leadership experience within a department or team.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings and Christian theology.
