The Opportunity:

As a Second in English, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Department and leading the teaching of English across key stages. This is an opportunity to influence curriculum delivery, enhance teaching practice, and make a meaningful impact on student achievement and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Head of English in the absence of the Head of Department.
  • Lead and develop English teaching practice across key stages.
  • Support the senior leadership team in maintaining high standards of behaviour.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of students in line with Trust policies.
  • Deliver consistently high-quality lessons across KS3, 4 and 5.
  • Manage and develop department members effectively.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in English education.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience in curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of teaching methodologies and assessment strategies.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departments or teams.
  • Familiarity with DDI (Developing Great Teaching) frameworks.
  • Experience in supporting teacher development and performance management.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
