The Opportunity:
As Second in Science, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Science department and driving student achievement across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a leadership position for an experienced teacher ready to shape curriculum, support colleagues, and raise standards in Science.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach outstanding Science lessons to students aged 11–16
- Support curriculum design and delivery across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Lead on specific projects such as assessment, interventions, or teaching quality
- Model excellent practice and mentor colleagues and/or trainee teachers
- Analyse data to raise achievement across the department
- Support departmental quality assurance and staff development
- Drive student engagement through enrichment, STEM, and careers activities
- Deputise for the Head of Science when required
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong classroom practitioner with a proven track record of student progress
- Skilled in curriculum planning, assessment, and data use
- Experience in leading others through coaching, modelling, and collaboration
- Passionate about inclusion, opportunity, and academic success
- Commitment to professional development and ongoing school improvement
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership role, such as Second in Charge or middle leadership
- Familiarity with Science curriculum development and assessment strategies
- Experience with STEM and careers engagement initiatives
- Ability to contribute to departmental strategy and long-term planning
