The Opportunity:

As Second in Science, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Science department and driving student achievement across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a leadership position for an experienced teacher ready to shape curriculum, support colleagues, and raise standards in Science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach outstanding Science lessons to students aged 11–16
  • Support curriculum design and delivery across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
  • Lead on specific projects such as assessment, interventions, or teaching quality
  • Model excellent practice and mentor colleagues and/or trainee teachers
  • Analyse data to raise achievement across the department
  • Support departmental quality assurance and staff development
  • Drive student engagement through enrichment, STEM, and careers activities
  • Deputise for the Head of Science when required

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong classroom practitioner with a proven track record of student progress
  • Skilled in curriculum planning, assessment, and data use
  • Experience in leading others through coaching, modelling, and collaboration
  • Passionate about inclusion, opportunity, and academic success
  • Commitment to professional development and ongoing school improvement

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership role, such as Second in Charge or middle leadership
  • Familiarity with Science curriculum development and assessment strategies
  • Experience with STEM and careers engagement initiatives
  • Ability to contribute to departmental strategy and long-term planning
