Summary:

Seeking an experienced SEN Primary Teacher to make a difference in the lives of children with autism and SEMH needs.

The Opportunity:

As a SEN Primary Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting children with autism and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will help them develop their abilities, build self-esteem, and achieve their full potential through a tailored and engaging curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, individualised teaching to pupils with autism and SEMH needs
  • Develop and implement bespoke learning plans using strategies such as TEACCH, attention autism, and visual communication tools
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours through understanding and positive intervention
  • Communicate effectively with non-verbal pupils using Makaton, picture symbols, and other visual aids
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, therapists, and teaching assistants
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and well-being
  • Work flexibly across a range of ages and abilities, from 4 to 11 years old
  • Continuously reflect on and improve teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each pupil

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching children with autism and SEMH needs
  • Experience working with non-verbal pupils and using visual communication tools such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD
  • Ability to manage and support pupils with challenging behaviours
  • Experience in delivering individualised and accessible curriculum content
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work with children aged 4 to 11

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience with autism strategies such as TEACCH and attention autism
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Background in special education or related field
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
