The Opportunity:
As a SEN Teacher KS1/KS2, you will play a vital role in delivering a functional and adapted curriculum to students with complex social communication needs. This role offers the chance to work in a small, nurturing class setting and contribute to a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team focused on student independence and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, teach, and deliver a functional and adapted curriculum tailored to the needs of students with complex social communication needs.
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a holistic and meaningful learning experience for students.
- Create and implement schemes of work that support students in developing essential life skills, literacy, and numeracy.
- Use symbolised communication systems (AAC) to enhance language and learning in the classroom.
- Support students in managing challenging behaviours and promoting positive interactions.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a consistent and supportive learning environment.
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with the MDT and parents.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A relevant teaching qualification and a minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience post-qualification.
- Experience delivering KS1/KS2 curriculum with a focus on foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
- Excellent English skills, including strong written and spoken communication.
- Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum.
- Ability to manage a small group of children with complex social communication needs.
- Experience with the Equals Curriculum or similar adapted curricula is advantageous.
Preferred
- Experience with the SCERTS framework.
- Experience using symbolised communication systems (AAC) in the classroom.
- Experience assessing and supporting challenging behaviours.
- Familiarity with functional, hands-on curriculum approaches.
- Interest in working with children with more profound or complex special educational needs.
