The Opportunity:

As a SEN Teacher Maternity Cover, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them reach their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a real difference in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEND using specialised strategies such as TEACCH and Assistive Technology.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, maintaining accurate records and setting personalised targets.
  • Create a stimulating and supportive classroom environment that encourages independence and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with therapists, specialists, and families to provide tailored support for students.
  • Lead and manage support staff within the classroom effectively.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole-school improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development and school events.
  • Support the school's commitment to safeguarding, equality, and the well-being of all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A certified teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent) and QTS.
  • At least 2 years’ experience teaching pupils with SEND in a school setting.
  • Evidence of outstanding classroom practice and a child-centred approach.
  • Strong knowledge of the English National Curriculum and/or EYFS.
  • Experience with SEND teaching approaches (e.g. PECS, Makaton, AAC devices).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and the ethos of the school.

Preferred

  • Additional specialist qualification (e.g. Masters in SEND).
  • Experience of subject leadership and curriculum development.
  • Training in Team Teach and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Experience using Read Write Inc, Talk 4 Writing, or White Rose Maths.
