The Opportunity:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex needs, helping them develop essential life skills and achieve independence. You will work in small groups, using a multi-sensory approach to support learning and communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with complex learning needs in core subjects and daily living skills.
  • Assist students in using communication aids such as Makaton, signs, and symbols.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students experiencing anxiety or challenging behaviors.
  • Work collaboratively with a skilled and supportive team to deliver a high-quality education.
  • Deliver personal care support, with full training provided.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance your skills and qualifications.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Literacy and numeracy skills to support student learning and complete records.
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and professionals.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Emotional resilience to meet the demands of the role.
  • Willingness to provide personal care support for students who need assistance.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in education or care settings.
  • Experience with students with complex needs or on the autism spectrum.
  • Knowledge of Makaton or other communication support methods.
  • Experience in a specialist education environment.
