The Opportunity:
As an SENCo, you will lead the provision for students with ALN/SEN, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive. You will play a key role in shaping the school’s inclusive ethos and driving improvements in teaching and learning for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Special Educational Needs provision across the school.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external agencies.
- Provide guidance and training to classroom teachers on strategies for supporting students with ALN/SEN.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to implement policies that promote inclusion and diversity.
- Lead 1:1 support programs for students with more complex needs.
- Conduct assessments and monitor progress through classroom observations and parent meetings.
- Develop and implement individual support plans in partnership with parents and external professionals.
- Create and manage IDP/EHCP documents to secure appropriate funding.
- Track and report on student progress through regular written reports and parent meetings.
- Develop and maintain accurate pupil records and support systems.
- Lead and motivate the ALN team to improve student outcomes and learning strategies.
- Manage access arrangements for assessments and examinations.
- Oversee invigilation and timetabling for ALN exams.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the ALN department, including budget, resources, and staff.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
- National Professional Qualification for Special Educational Needs (NPQ SENCO) or equivalent for Wales.
- Significant experience working with students with ALN/SEN in an educational setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing inclusive education policies.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in ALN/SEN provision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in managing a team and leading departmental initiatives.
