The Opportunity:

As SENCO, you will play a vital role in shaping the inclusive learning environment at a school. You will lead the provision for students with special educational needs, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. This is a part-time role that offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes and contribute to a progressive, dynamic, and innovative educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Special Educational Needs provision, ensuring all students with SEN receive appropriate support and accommodations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and external agencies to facilitate collaboration and ensure student well-being.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and training to classroom teachers on effective strategies for supporting students with SEN.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement policies that promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Lead the 1:1 student support program for learners with more complex needs.
  • Conduct assessments of pupils to identify needs and monitor progress through classroom observations and meetings with teachers and parents.
  • Work with classroom teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement individual support/learning plans.
  • Track and monitor pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
  • Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records accurate and up to date.
  • Lead SEN teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff to improve pupil progress and attainment.
  • Manage access arrangements for assessments and examinations in liaison with DP/MYP coordinators.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the department, including budget, resources, meetings, recruitment, and staff assessment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • National Professional Qualification for Special Educational Needs (NPQ SENCO).
  • Significant experience working with students with SEN in an educational setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in SEN provision.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience in a school setting with a strong focus on inclusion and student-centered learning.
  • Experience with curriculum development and policy implementation.
