Summary:

Senior Science Technician needed to support practical science teaching at a leading sixth form college.

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth delivery of practical science lessons across A Level Biology, Chemistry, and Applied Science. You will support teaching staff, manage laboratory resources, and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice, contributing to the school’s commitment to excellence in education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage practical resources and laboratory facilities
  • Prepare equipment, chemicals, and materials for lessons and demonstrations
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including COSHH and risk assessments
  • Maintain, test, calibrate, and repair specialist scientific equipment
  • Manage stock control, ordering, and safe storage of chemicals and equipment
  • Provide technical support and advice to teaching staff during lessons
  • Construct or modify apparatus as required for practical activities
  • Line manage and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience working as a science technician, ideally in an educational setting
  • Strong subject knowledge and practical laboratory skills in science
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and ICT skills
  • Strong communication skills with both staff and students
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the values of the school
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the wider life of the institution

Preferred

  • Experience in managing and mentoring apprentices
  • Familiarity with A Level science curriculum and assessment requirements
  • Experience with health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with specialist scientific equipment and its maintenance
