Senior Science Technician needed to support practical science teaching at a leading sixth form college.

The Opportunity:
As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth delivery of practical science lessons across A Level Biology, Chemistry, and Applied Science. You will support teaching staff, manage laboratory resources, and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice, contributing to the school’s commitment to excellence in education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage practical resources and laboratory facilities
- Prepare equipment, chemicals, and materials for lessons and demonstrations
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including COSHH and risk assessments
- Maintain, test, calibrate, and repair specialist scientific equipment
- Manage stock control, ordering, and safe storage of chemicals and equipment
- Provide technical support and advice to teaching staff during lessons
- Construct or modify apparatus as required for practical activities
- Line manage and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience working as a science technician, ideally in an educational setting
- Strong subject knowledge and practical laboratory skills in science
- Excellent organisational, time management, and ICT skills
- Strong communication skills with both staff and students
- Commitment to safeguarding and the values of the school
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the wider life of the institution
Preferred
- Experience in managing and mentoring apprentices
- Familiarity with A Level science curriculum and assessment requirements
- Experience with health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment
- Experience with specialist scientific equipment and its maintenance
